💪 Today’s tip: Each day, put something to suck at on your to-do list.

We tend to mostly do what we already know we’re good at, gravitating toward jobs, hobbies, and lifestyles that suit us well. But as John Gorman notes, you can never learn anything new, or get any better at something you are only kind of good at, without first spending some time in that uncomfortable space of being bad at it.

Gorman’s suggestion: Seek out things you know you suck at, and do them because of, not in spite of, that fact. “A super-curious thing happens when you have the courage to suck repeatedly,” he writes. “Each time you do it, you suck a little bit less until one day you stop sucking at all.” So, what is it — playing guitar? Crimping pie dough? Playing chess with your kid? What are you going to be terrible at today — and thus, most likely, a little better at tomorrow?

✍️ We want to hear from you. Send us an email at forge@medium.com and tell us what you used to suck at that you have now mastered. We may feature some of our favorite answers on Forge’s Instagram.
