🙏 Today’s tip: When someone gives you a compliment, just thank them. The more you practice, the less awkward it will feel.

Whenever you brush off a compliment — Oh, that presentation I gave really wasn’t that impressive — what the praise-giver hears is that you don’t believe they’re being sincere.

If you struggle to accept compliments (in particular, many women do), the writer Miyah Byrd offers a simple tip: “Pretend you’re giving the compliment to another friend. Do you want the person to deny it or do you want them to feel joy?” Chances are, it’s the latter. So experience the happiness yourself, too. Listen to the recognition you’re receiving, soak it in, and then simply say, “Thank you.” It’s a gift to both of you.
