📤 Today’s tip: Find a reason to send an acquaintance a kind, out-of-the-blue email.

The writer Michael Thompson sends four different types of emails each week: one to a potential mentor, one to someone he used to work with, one to someone who could use some encouragement, and one to someone he wants to thank (that last one he sends daily).

What do they have in common? All four are simple, low-effort ways to nurture relationships with your “weak ties” — people you’re not particularly close to, but who nevertheless enrich your life with their presence. A quick note of support, admiration, or gratitude “can also be a glorious tool to tighten your relationships and mobilize your career,” Thompson writes.
