A New Warrior Pose for 2021

‘Fuck it and it’s okay’ (🖕and👌): a stance to breathe into right now

The warrior pose, for those unfamiliar, is a yoga pose meant to instill strength and confidence. After the year we’ve had, it’s also a pose that’s due for an upgrade. We need a new warrior pose for 2021. Something mighty, compassionate, and sustainable — a stance that both soothes and empowers.

I present to you:

Fuck it and it’s okay. This pose can be done sitting, standing, on a Zoom call… or anywhere you have your hands free: With your left hand do the gyan mudra — that’s your “it’s okay” hand (👌) to non-yoga people. And with the other raise your middle finger (🖕). That’s your “fuck it” hand.

That’s it. Hold the pose. Breathe into it. The two hands work separately. They work together. They work.

🖕“Fuck it” is for reclaiming, for action. Here we channel the rebel, the activist, the iconoclast. Old stories need updates. Plots need twists. The past needs releasing. The future is unwritten. Be real about what you want and who you are, and shed that shit that isn’t working. “Fuck it” steers us away from caution and onto a bigger playing field. It’s never too late to plant a seed, to forgive an enemy, to knock down a wall.

👌 “It’s okay” is for de-shaming. Remind yourself that everything you feel is allowed. Your pain is real. Drench it in kindness. There’s no hack more effective than simply embracing yourself and your experience. “It’s okay” is always there, not only to help you feel better, but to help you get better at feeling.
