🖊️ Today’s tip: Write with one specific person in mind.

Imagining a single reader is easy enough when you’re writing, say, an email. But you should also do it when writing a speech or a presentation — or even an article or novel.

Going deeper, not wider, makes for better writing, explains the popular Medium writer Darius Foroux. He sometimes imagines his friend Quincey when writing about personal finance.

“When you try to make something for everyone, it usually serves no one,” he writes. “Before I write a story, I ask myself: ‘Who is this for?’…Once you decide who you’re writing for, you’ll be able to figure out what should and shouldn’t be in your story.”
