💡 Today’s tip: When you see work you’re jealous of, tell the world why you love it.

Theodore Roosevelt once said that comparison is the thief of joy. If you’re an ambitious type, odds are you’ve experienced said joy-theft more than once or twice in your day — maybe even this week. Instead of pining after someone else’s success, Michael Thompson writes, try unpacking your envy in a productive way: Figure out why their work is making you jealous, then sing its praises.

“Simply becoming a fan will help you focus on the thing you can control: the level of care and quality you put into your own work,” Thompson explains. When you allow yourself to appreciate someone else’s success, you clear a path for your own inspiration.
