If you speak to any healthy, energetic old person in Japan, they’ll probably describe themselves as ‘genki’, a state of not just being physically well, but where emotionally they feel fulfilled and spirited. You’ll probably also notice that they are very proud of their health — and perhaps rightfully so — and really enjoy the way they take care of themselves.

Healthy people don’t just do the things that make them healthy, but you will find that they truly enjoy the art of it. They find it fun, fulfilling, and good for the spirit, a complete 180 to the fairly common notion that exercising and eating well is boring, tiring, and sometimes just plain stressful.
