Today’s tip: Run the dishwasher twice if it makes your life easier.

When you’re struggling, sometimes you need to throw out conventional wisdom and do what it takes to feel like yourself again. When Kate Scott confessed to her therapist during a low point that scrubbing the dishes felt overwhelming, she recalls in a Forge essay, her therapist gave her some simple advice: If the dishes aren’t clean, run the dishwasher again.

Whatever’s overwhelming you right now, the solution really can be that easy. Throw everything that’s scattered on your floor into the bathroom so you can see a clean floor and breathe. Spontaneously clear all your tabs. Do the thing you need to do feel even 1% better — which may just give you the momentum to keep going.
