One question to take the pressure off the holidays

Today’s tip: Ask yourself, “What would it look like to celebrate a person I love on a random day?”

True, the holiday season looks pretty different this year. But just because you’re not having the same cozy gathering with your extended family doesn’t mean you have to wait for next December to catch up with your favorite aunt or cousin. As the therapist Kathleen Smith puts it: “There’s no reason to let the calendar dictate how and when we take care of each other.”

“I think most people would say they want to be someone who sends funny gifts to friends for no reason at all,” Smith writes. “Somebody who calls their sister at an odd hour to say you miss her.” At any time of year, you can be that person. Why not start now?
