🗒️ Today’s tip: When it comes to prioritizing your to-do list, think top-down, not bottom-up.

When looking at your to-do list, it’s easy to cherrypick the tasks that are the most fun, or at least the most tolerable—buying a birthday gift, knocking out a quick email—and tackle those first. But while this strategy might keep you busy, it’s not the most effective. To better prioritize, think of a mantra that Hunter Walk uses: “Top down, not bottom up.”

Walk writes: “Do what matters first in terms of impact. I use the metaphor ‘avoid snacks.’” It’s a good reminder that not all responsibilities are created equal. How do you create a prioritized list? Hint: Usually that thing you’ve been putting off is the very thing that should be moved to the top.
