During the pandemic, positive emotional experiences are harder to come by. That’s why, when you have one, it makes sense to cling to it like a toddler wrapped around a parent’s leg. As Ashley Abramson writes, we can make our good memories last longer, and stay more vivid in our minds, by connecting our experiences to our senses.

“If you’re in a moment you know you want to return to later, notice as many sensory cues as you can: the color of the grass, the way the sun feels on your arms, the slightly tinny sound of your best friend’s voice filtered through Zoom,” Abramson writes. “Linking a physical element to a positive experience can make the memory more durable, and provide you with a tangible way to return to the memory later on.”
