A rule to set for your next meeting

💡 Today’s tip: Keep your 1:1 meetings to 15 minutes.

Too often, regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with your boss or key colleagues can feel aimless and awkward. They’re obligatory, after all. And sometimes, well, there’s not much to say.

Laura Vanderkam has an easy fix: Make them way shorter. “It’s a chunk of quality time that can actually happen,” she writes. “Setting out to spend 15 minutes fully focused on someone, and then doing it, can create a real feeling of connection and trust.”

It works for your personal life, too — your partner, your kids, your parents. It’s a check-in that keeps you connected long after the burst of communication is over.
