💰 Today’s tip: When you feel out of control, check your bank balances.

It’s totally understandable if thinking about money stresses you out right now. But if you’re taking a head-in-the-sand approach to personal finance, you might be just saving the stress for later.

As John Gorman wrote recently, being a little more hands-on about your finances can bring a crucial sense of control in a chaotic time. In Gorman’s case, the simple act of checking his bank balances helped him realize that he could easily cut his spending on subscriptions and delivery apps.

“I’ve taken some solace in knowing I’ve gotten slightly less awkward about managing my money,” he wrote. “At the very least, I no longer feel triggered every time I log into my banking app to see what surprising number is staring back at me.” There’s strength in knowing your numbers.
